Month by month
Matusadona in February
February continues the wet season. The bush is at its thickest and greenest, the camps are quiet and the lake is at its most dramatic under the storm clouds.
If you only want the answer
February is for the quiet park and the storms. Game is dispersed and some interior roads may be hard going, but boats work and lodge rates stay at their lowest.
Weather
Still one of the wettest months on the model normals, with rain on most days and warm nights. Build slack into any plan that depends on a boat crossing, because storms on the lake can hold one up.
On the thirty-year model normals February averages 26.0°C by day and 19.9°C at night, with 269 mm of rain over 23 wet days.
Where the bush camp goes
The park's website says a green-season bush camp runs at Shenga Bay on the lakeshore, while its February 2026 information pack describes a year-round fly camp instead. We could not settle which is current, so ask the trust if you want a bush-camp night in the rains.
Rates
Green-season rates apply: Changa from $440 per person per night international.
The lake
Check the Zambezi River Authority's current Lake Kariba reading before you go: on 22 September 2026 the lake stood at 481.13 m, 40.89% of usable storage, far higher than a year earlier, and the level shapes the lakeshore grassland where most of the game is. We have no sourced month-by-month lake cycle, so we do not predict one.
